Date energy bites are healthy, instantly lift the energy level, and simultaneously satisfy the sweet tooth. These energy bites are perfect for before or after workouts.

About Date Energy Balls

I love these energy balls; they are easy to prepare, require few ingredients, and the recipe comes together in 15 minutes.

I have a sweet tooth and often crave something sweet after lunch or dinner. And that time, eating just one date energy ball would instantly satisfy my craving.

I have added a couple of tablespoon of cocoa powder to give it a light chocolate flavor. So for me, it’s a double treat, my favorite dates and chocolate together. For me, date balls are healthy, very satisfying, and no less than a dessert.

Ingredients

  1. Dates
  2. Mixed Nuts Like Almonds, Cashews, and Walnuts
  3. Cocoa Powder
  4. Chia Seeds
  5. A pinch of sea salt
  1. Dates: I have used Medjool dates to make these date energy balls. They are more naturally sweetened than other varieties. And they are large, juicy, and very soft. Even after adding nuts, cocoa powder, and chia seeds, the energy balls are perfectly sweet. And there is no need to add any sweetener. But you can use your favorite variety of dates.
  2. Mixed Nuts: I have an equal quantity of almonds, walnuts, and cashews (⅓ cup each). But we can also use other nuts, like pecans or hazelnuts. Also, you can use only two kinds of nuts or use each nut in different quantities. We need to use one cup of nuts in total. And that is what matters; you can use any nuts of your choice.
  3. Cocoa Powder: Cocoa powder provides a light chocolate flavor and dark color to these delicious date balls. Instead of cocoa powder, you can add two tablespoon of Nutella or chocolate chips. Or you can skip adding cocoa powder.
  4. Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are nutritious and high in protein and fiber. And adding chia seeds to these balls makes them healthier. And I love the way they add a pleasant crunch to the delicious date balls.

For The Dry or Hard Dates

  • If your dates are hard or dry, that’s okay. But do not use them as it is.
  • Soak hard or dry dates in warm water for at least 15-20 minutes.
  • After soaking them, completely drain the water and use them in the recipe.

Toasting The Nuts

  • Toasted nuts are more flavorful than raw. And so I prefer toasted nuts over raw.
  • However, I have just lightly toasted the nuts. They add nice flavor and crunch to the date balls.
  • But toasting nuts is optional; you can skip this step and use raw nuts in the recipe.

Step by Step Directions

  • Place nuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Lightly toast the nuts at 350° F for 5 minutes. Let them cool completely.
  • If you want to use raw nuts, skip the step of toasting the nuts.

  • Add dates, nuts, cocoa powder, chia seeds, and sea salt in a food processor fitted with an S-shaped blade.

  • Process until everything is well combined, sticks together, and becomes almost like a dough.
  • If it is not coming together or is a little dry, add one or two tablespoon of water or orange juice.
  • Do not process for longer; otherwise, the oil will start separating from the nuts.

  • Scoop the dough with your hand, a tbsp, or a small ice cream scoop, and form it into small balls using your hands.
  • If it is too sticky and hard to form balls, lightly grease your palm with coconut oil or any other neutral oil.

  • Enjoy the date energy balls right away or store them in an airtight container and place them in the fridge for up to two weeks and in the freezer for up to a month.

Notes
